MII
11/25/2000
Media Independent Interface(MII): A de facto standard for connecting computers to external Ethernet high speed controllers. The MII is the high speed equivalent of the 10Mbps AUI Interface. The MII uses a 40 pin D-Shell connector defined in IEEE-802.3u. The idea seems to be that a computer interfaces to MII and the facility manager provides MII to network converters. It then becomes possible to change network technologies -- say from Ethernet to fibre optic -- without having to reconfigure the computer (much).
