| Watchung Reservation | Union | NJ | LatLon is parking area. There are four outcrops described along Blue Brook which is about a 1km hike from the parking area. They have different faunas. See reference for more detailed hiking instructions which look to me to be possibly a bit garbled even before I mangle them. The first site is described as 600m SE then SW of parking area to loop trail at the end of Cataract Hollow Rd then 300m NE along old canal levee to 40.6791,-70.3786. Pink,Gray, white limestones interbedded with red siltstones and sandstones. Fossil fish in the lower laminated limestones(Cataract Hollow Bed). Second outcrop is 150m NE to outcrop on SW side of the creek at 40.6804,-70.3786 of poorly exposed black limestones and mudstones (Vosseller Bed). Fossil fish?. The third outcrop is about 280m SE at 40.681,-70.3786 where trail ascends cliff. The outcrop is downslope(?) toward the creek and consists of limestones contaning ostracods and (upslope?) in gray sandstones and siltstones plants in growth position. The final outcrop is about 300mNE at 40.6836,70,3786 on bluff on a West flowing tributary. Purple and gray siltstones (Trailside bed)with fossil plants (Brachyphyllum), Black calcerous mudstone (Shuttle Meadow bed) with fossil fish. Black shale (Lake Surprise bed) with articulated fossil fish. Heavily weathered black limestones(?) (Vosseller bed) with fossil fish | Tu | Feltville | ichnofossils-reptilia-dinosauria(footprints);;invertebrates-arthropoda-ostracoda;;plants-Brachyphyllum,Clathropteris,Equisetides;vertebrates-fish-Semionotus,Redfieldius?,Ptycholepis?,(coprolites) | NJ0424 | https://nygsa-online.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/2010_bookmarked,pdf:p144 | 40.6835,-74.3882,,AKm72 | | | , | |||
