CODEWORDS - INTEL
8/7/99
Codewords: Many major projects are identified by codewords during development and assigned a common name by marketing on or near the release date. The following are some commonly referenced Intel codewords that many people in the computer industry recognize:
Intel:
- Cascades - Intel codeword for a successor to Tanner built with 0.18 micron technology.
-
Coppermine - Intel codeword for a CPU similar to Katmai (Pentium III) using 0.18 micron technology to operate in the 700MHz range.
-
Covington - Intel Codeword for the CPU that became the Pentium II and the original (No integrated L2 cache) Celeron
-
Deerfield - Intel codeword for a low end CPU to be similar to Madison.
-
Deschutes - Intel Codeword for the .25micron technology CPU used in Later Pentium IIs - 330MHz and above
-
Dixon - Intel codeword for a low power ("Mobile") Pentium II CPU with 256K L2 cache.
-
Foster - Intel Codeword for a 1GHz CPU -- thought to be a 32 bit CPU.
-
Katmai - Intel Codeword for the 32 bit processor that became the core of the Pentium III CPU. Added additional instructions.
-
Klamath - Intel codeword for the original (.35 micron technology) Pentium II
-
Madison - Intel codeword for a 64 bit .13micron technology CPU similar to McKinley
-
Mendocino - Intel codeword for the CPU used in the Celeron with Integrated L2 Cache. Also intended for notebooks.
-
McKinley - Intel codeword for a 64 bit CPU to succeed Merced
-
Merced - Intel codeword for a 64 bit processor with an entirely new instruction set to be released in 2000.
-
Willamette - Intel codeword for an 800MHz 0.13micron successor to Deschutes (pentium II).
-
Tanner - Intel Codeword for Pentium III Xeon CPU
-
Tillamook - Intel codeword for a low power ("Mobile") MMX Pentium
-
Timna - A low end successor to the Celeron
-
Tonga - Intel codeword for a low power ("Mobile") Pentium II
