DISK THERMAL TILT

4/19/2003

Disk Thermal Tilt occurs on hard disks when temperature changes inside the disk case cause either the disk stack or actuator arms to move out of alignment. In most cases, thermal tilt causes misreads or miswrites. In severe cases, it may cause head crashes. It has been suggested that some hard drive data access failures on running drives are due to thermal tilt, and may be avoidable/correctable by ensuring adequate drive ventilation
